Number 1 Social Media Resolution for 2012

By Karen Ballard

I just got my e-newsletter from our friend Todd Skelton at TripAdvisor and was reminded of this very important bit of housekeeping we must all do.

By far, the most important thing any tourism business can do is to make sure they are registered on TripAdvisor to use their owners’ page.  Whether they are a lodging property, an attraction, a tour or a restaurant and regardless of how they rank in their destination or how good or bad their reviews are, you must be listening to what people are saying about you.

The owners’ page is the place to go. It is free to register, and is password protected.  Registered business owners get an e-mail each time somebody posts a new review about them so you don’t have to constantly monitor the site. The owners’ page itself is filled with resources, like a contact to update your information, a link to respond to any user review, tracking tools for ranking, and – yes – a contact to complain about a review or comment that you feel is not appropriate or believe to be untrue.

While you are there why don’t you take a minute to peruse the Idaho Forum pages and see if you have any useful local knowledge you can add to your community page? You can set it up so that you get pinged anytime someone asks a question on a forum topic you care about.
